Alexei, a mathematician of Russian origin, has been living in Wales and working at Cardiff University since 2001. He holds a PhD in applied mathematics and physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, known as the Soviet equivalent of Imperial College in London and MIT in Boston, which he obtained in 1995. 

Alexei's passion for music began in childhood when he learned to play the button accordion, and he has been a dedicated member of the Camenae de Cymru group since its inception. He has played a key role in organising and promoting the ensemble's events, showcasing his commitment and expertise in both mathematics and music.
